Rain, Rain, Rain, Go Away!!
Yet another boring weekend is passing by here at JCMU. Starting Friday night and continuing on until way past when I went to sleep on Saturday night, it rained constantly. And in Japan, when it rains, it doesn’t sprinkle or even drizzle. Its either pouring or its not raining at all. Despite the fact that I have a pretty infallible rainsuit complete with rain shoes, no one wants to go out in the rain with me, which makes it somewhat boring. So instead I sat around and hung out in the TV room all day. That was fun for a while until people continued playing video games for hours and hours. Put in a movie since I thought people might enjoy it (Onmyoji, an exceptional film set in the Heian period of Japan), only to have everyone mock it all the way through. Guess its too much to expect lots of Asian Studies majors to grasp the significance of certain Japanese symbolism, history, and politics. Sigh.
This weekend I’ve been pricing out how much it will cost for me and Cassidy to visit Hiroshima next month. We have a 3 day weekend on the 20th, and JCMU has told everyone that if you travel somewhere beyond the usual Kyoto or Nagoya trip, and do some cultural activities, they will refund us $60 worth of our expenses. So I would really love to go to Hiroshima, since its fairly far away from JCMU. I am also hoping to visit Fukuoka, which is pretty far from Hiroshima, mostly because there is a Hard Rock Cafe there and this would probably be the only opportunity that I’ll have to visit it. So to go from Hikone to Hiroshima, by Shinkansen is about a $120 trip. But its only a $70 trip if we take the regular subways, which unfortunately takes 6 hours to get there. Then the tricky thing is that from Hiroshima, if we take the slow cheap way, its another $50 to get to Fukuoka, but its also another 6 hours of travel. If we managed to get to Fukuoka, it would be insane to go back on the cheap way, so taking the Shinkansen back would be a $160 and 4 hour trip. So altogether, that’s about $220 for transportation alone, minus the $60 that they give us. If we just go to Hiroshima, it will only cost about $80 for travel, minus the $60 refund. So its a hard decision.
Today for a while I have my dorm room to myself since my roommate and Cassidy are in Nagoya for a church overnight. I get to clean things and then do homework I guess. Saturday I was supposed to go to some ‘game store’ that has a supposedly awesome arcade, but because of the rain it was postponed to today. However I’ve been sick the past 3 days and today I’m feeling even worse, so I don’t know if I’ll even go now.
At least I woke up to find out that Michigan beat Penn State in the last 0:01 of the 4th quarter. I miss Ann Arbor. ![]()

Well, I will say that if we mocked it, its because we mock EVERYTHING. I actually did like the movie, and it piqued my interest in what sort of stuff went on back then, but I guess that didn’t translate in the mockery of jokes about the animatronic demon chicken. Oh and I’m not an Asian Studies Major, but rather Poli Sci, and a rather flippant one at that, so maybe my attitude isn’t the best to sit around on a slow saturday night and watch a period piece.
As for the rain thing, I generally dislike going out by bike in the rain, since I damn near kill myself most of the time anyways in perfectly good weather.I tend to have that luck with coming a razors edge cloth to severe injury.
Oh and the game store doesn’t have an arcade. The book off does. The huge fucking used game store, hwoever, has whatever your heart desires. Like serious, they have PC-FX’S. Most people don’t even know what that is IN THIS COUNTRY and they have pretty much the whole catalog of titles.

I didn’t mind your comments on the movie. It was just a certain few people that were kind of getting on my nerves. Guess I was just a bit uppity since I had been stuck inside the whole day.
And where ever this arcade is, I still have yet to see it!!

Well that was a quick response. Well I’m going to the game store one of these days mostly to pick up more Saturn games etc. I’ll tell you one day if I’m going. It really is a hell of a bike ride though. We’re not exgerrating when we say that. And you have to be ultra careful cause the road is fucking horrible out there and your bike will go out from under you real easy. Brian made fun of me the first time we went out there for falling off twice, and then the next time, he did the same thing, AND popped his bike tire. Ha!
Oh, whats your AIM SN so I don’t have to keep going back and forth via COMMENTS.

If the roads are bad now, guess what it’s going to be like when it snows. :[
Hope you’re feeling better.

Its not that the movie isnt interesting, the fact that we were mocking it for fun was evidence enough that we were highly enjoying the film. I played those who hunt elves, and those that didnt wanna watch it were by no means obligated to watch it. You yourself even left half way through. By this you can say that those that were not entertained by your film would have left, and to the best of my knowledge, no one did.
If you really want the ambiance of noone talking, to be honest the only real place to do that is in the comfort of your own room. I mean, you cant really control everyone around you and make them do what you want them to do, and to try to do that is kinda on the childish side.(Hey, thats what my niece does, she doesnt get her way, she pouts and lets everyone know shes not happy so that they change to do what she wants.) Really, I dont think your trying to do that, but if your annoyed by what other people are doing different from what you think should be done, (aka, mocking a movie, cheating on tests, etc.) your really letting it bother you a little too much, IMO. Who cares what other people decide to do, they’re not you, its not really affecting you directly, its their choice and they make it themselves. They reap the consiquences. (like when we took a different path from your group going to book off.)
Really though, I think that you let things bother you a little too much, and when they do you turn into the person that tries to round up all the kids in the nursery. Im willing to bet though, that your not really like that at all, just when people go somewhere and have no plan I think you try to make one for everyone. (Or at least thats the impression that I got, but hey, what the hell do I know?)
This really isnt meant to be offensive. Im more then willing to discuss this more with you over my email: hells6@yahoo.com or AIM: DokLHells. I really think you need to chill out a bit is all. Btw, the contact link on your site doesnt work, but hey, pretty cool overall!
Adios.
